Why supporting young entrepreneurs matters in our community
Hi community, Jorge here with another article. Happy spring!
When people hear the word entrepreneurship, they often think about business plans, money, risk, and years of experience. But many times, entrepreneurship starts much earlier.
It starts with a small idea.
A drawing. A handmade product. A problem someone wants to solve. A child saying, “What if I make this, can I make money with it?”
Today’s article is about entrepreneurship in our Latin American community here in the Okanagan. But more precisely, it is about beginnings.
Starting something new is never easy. Anyone who has tried to build a business knows that there are good days, hard days, mistakes, and many lessons along the way. Here in British Columbia, small businesses are an important part of our communities. Canada’s 2025 small business report shows that B.C. has more than 170,000 small employer businesses, which means many families, workers, and local communities are connected to small business in one way or another.
Honestly, sometimes I think about how much time I could have saved if I had learned some of these lessons earlier. That is why I believe it is so valuable to teach kids about business.
Children are naturally creative. They imagine freely. They are not afraid to dream big, ask simple questions, or create something from nothing. When children get the chance to create something, talk to people, sell their product, and feel proud of their work, they are not just learning about business. They are learning confidence, creativity, responsibility, and courage.
Entrepreneurship is not only about winning quickly. It is about learning, trying again, understanding people, building confidence, and celebrating small victories.
For many of us, these lessons came later in life. We learned by making mistakes, asking questions and losing money. Sometimes I think, “I wish I had learned some of this earlier.”
That is why spaces for young entrepreneurs matter.
This is why the return of the Little Entrepreneurs Market is such great news for our community.
Presented by Latin Voices Society, the Little Entrepreneurs Market gives children the chance to create, market, and sell their own products in a fun and supportive environment. The event helps young participants build confidence, learn practical skills, and experience business in a hands-on way.

Grizzli Winery is a beautiful local venue in West Kelowna, known for its welcoming space and community events. It is a perfect place to gather, support local families, and celebrate the creativity of our youth.
Our children grow up watching sacrifice, adaptation, and hard work. Events like this help connect that family strength with creativity, courage, and possibility.
Because our children do not only live here.
They can also participate here.
Contribute here.
And grow here.
